A Legacy Brand, A Catalogue Built To Last

Since 1942, Eric Comfort Shoes has helped customers across New York and Long Island find footwear across a wide range of sizes, widths, styles, and categories. That breadth is what makes the catalogue valuable, but it also made the move to a new platform considerably more complex.

As Zoey became increasingly difficult to work with, Eric Comfort Shoes needed a more flexible foundation. Shopify offered the right platform, but moving a catalogue this complex meant solving a bigger question: how do you bring the depth of an established catalogue into Shopify without losing the way the business actually works?

The Challenge

This wasn't a straightforward platform switch. With 100+ product variations across a broad footwear catalogue, Eric Comfort Shoes needed Shopify to handle the complexity without creating more work for the team behind it.

When Variations Start Adding Up

Footwear can get complicated quickly. Sizes, widths, styles, and other options create combinations that can stretch beyond Shopify's standard product structure. The new setup needed to accommodate that depth while keeping products organised and usable.

Making the Catalogue Easier to Manage

The existing catalogue had become increasingly difficult to maintain. Eric Comfort Shoes needed a backend that was more accessible for the team, making everyday product management less cumbersome.

Moving the Catalogue Without Losing Its Logic

The migration involved more than moving product data from one platform to another. Product relationships, variations, and catalogue structures all had to carry across accurately, so the business could move forward without losing the logic behind its existing range.

The Objectives

The goal was to create more than a new home for Eric Comfort Shoes’ catalogue. The new Shopify foundation needed to preserve the depth and relationships within a decades-built product range, give the team greater control over how it was managed, and create the flexibility to support the catalogue as it continues to grow.

The WAC Approach

The migration wasn't treated as a simple transfer from one platform to another. WAC started with the catalogue itself: how products were structured, how variations were connected, and what the team needed from Shopify every day.
Shaping Shopify Around the Catalogue

Shaping Shopify Around the Catalogue

WAC mapped how Eric Comfort Shoes’ products actually worked, then extended Shopify where its standard structure fell short. The result was a platform shaped around the catalogue, rather than a catalogue forced to fit the platform.
Giving Complex Products a Better Structure

Giving Complex Products a Better Structure

With products spanning 100+ variations, WAC built a custom parent-child architecture to organise related products within Shopify. This gave the catalogue the structure it needed while making complex product management far more practical for the team.

WAC mapped the relationships between products, variations, and categories before rebuilding them in Shopify, ensuring the migration carried across more than data. The result was a digital foundation that retained the logic of Eric Comfort Shoes’ catalogue while giving it room to evolve.

A Better Structure for a Complex Business

For Eric Comfort Shoes, moving to Shopify was never simply about changing platforms. The real task was bringing decades of catalogue depth into a system that could support it without stripping away the way the business sells.

WAC turned that complexity into a more flexible product structure, giving Eric Comfort Shoes a Shopify foundation built around the way its catalogue actually works.
